Smyril ferry from Tórshavn to Krambatangi, about two hours. Takes cars. Book ahead in summer.
Suðuroy is the island most visitors skip, and the one Faroese people most often recommend. Two hours on the ferry each way is enough friction to keep the crowds off it.
The west coast cliffs at Beinisvørð and the sea arch at Ásmundarstakkur are the equal of anything on the main islands, without the car parks. The trade-off is real though: if the ferry is cancelled you are stuck, in either direction.
