When to visit

Which month should I come in?

What each season actually offers, including what closes and what is not there yet.

The short version
  • Puffins are only present roughly mid-May to late August.
  • Summer has the light and the crowds; May and September are the sweet spot.
  • Winter is dark and many services reduce, but it is not extreme.

Summer, June to August

Nearly endless daylight, every ferry and tour running, puffins present, and the only period when the well-known sites feel busy. Accommodation and cars sell out.

Late spring and early autumn

May and September keep most of the daylight and most of the services while losing most of the crowds. September is the single best compromise for a first visit, with the caveat that the puffins have gone.

Winter, November to February

Around five hours of usable light in December, frequent storms, reduced ferry and tour operation. It is atmospheric and cheap, and it is not a first-trip season.

We do not know: Seasonal opening hours

BEST has no opening-hours data for Faroese businesses. Whether a specific restaurant or museum runs in February is not something we can tell you.
